Musical and screen powerhouse Christie Whelan Browne unpicks her personal life stories for a bubblegum pop cabaret that will melt your heart and pull you back to teenage bedroom diary dreams.
Whelan Browne (Show People, Sydney Festival 2023) looks back from her childhood to today – from the blue light discos and crushing teen self-doubt to her battles with endometriosis, IVF and her own self-worth – to tell a tale of hard-worn self-acceptance.
Written and directed by Sheridan Harbridge, Life in Plastic features a dizzying array of disco hits and pop anthems. Plus, guest appearances from Barbie, some full-on dental braces, soul-bearing diary entries, video footage from Whelan Browne’s life and one triumphant dancing dinosaur, in a story of finding yourself and loving that person without bounds.
