The temperatures are still high and so are the vibes. We heartily encourage you to get out there and enjoy your city in March. Here's just a taster of what you'll find if you do...

Contemporary music

Some international highlights include female hip hop royalty Bahamadia at Red Rattler Theatre (7 March), 2ManyDJs at City Recital Hall (7 March) followed by John Grant (11 March), Irish disco queen Roisin Murphy at The Enmore (13 March), melancholy-rock maestros Cigarettes After Sex at the ICC (14–15 March) and the inimitable Fatboy Slim at UNSW Roundhouse (18 March). And a tip of the hat to Sydney Opera House's stellar Forecourt bookings for March: PJ Harvey, Fontaines DC and New Order. All calamitously sold out, but consider stalking Tixel in case of miracle.

And of course there are homegrown heroes aplenty on the circuit this month, catch up and coming crooner Don West at the Lansdowne (14–16 March), Sydney psych-outfit Velvet Trip at Bondi Pavilion, Aussie icons King Stingray at the Enmore (20 March), indie upstarts The Buoys at Vic on the Park (21 March), Sydney Festival Moonshine Bar alumni Thunderfox at the Lansdowne (22 March) and the dulcet tones of Budjerah at The Factory Theatre (28 March)

Classical music

The Sydney Symphony Orchestra performs Brahms Violin Concerto and more at Sydney Opera House Concert Hall (6–8 March), Australian Haydn Ensemble presents Haydn's Sunrise at Riverside Theatre (9 March) and Sydney Opera House (17 March) and Opera Australia teams up with Circa to present opera-circus fusion Dido & Aaeneas at Sydney Opera House (15–25 March). Omega Ensemble under the direction of celebrated cellist Umberto Clerici performs La Musica Notturna at City Recital Hall (25 March), enjoy all four of Bach's Orchestral Suites with the Brandenburg Orchestra at the Hall in the following weeks (from 28 March), or see Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra Concertmaster and violinist Yamen Saadi alongside Australian pianist Simon Tedechi at The Great Synagogue (19 March).

The standout season of the hilarious Titanique continues at The Grand Electric, The Pirates of Penzance takes over Hayes Theatre (until 16 March) while Bell Shakespeare Company tackles Henry 5 at Sydney Opera House (until 5 April). Riverside Theatres host the return of some classics this month, as Heather Mitchell continues to shine in RBG: Of Many, One and the joyous cabaret, An Evening Without Kate Bush (Sydney Festival 2024), continues its tour. David Williamson's Aria shines at Ensemble Theatre (until 15 March), dark comedy Furious Mattress plays at Belvoir St Theatre and beloved comedian Will Anderson hits the Pavilion Performing Arts Centre (14 March).

In dance, Bandaluzia Spectacular Flamenco comes to Art Gallery of NSW (9 March), look out for Sydney Dance Company's Somos at The Neilson Studio (from 27 March), the formidable Shen Yun plays at Capitol Theatre and Beat Breakdown hosts street dance battles at Darling Harbour (13–20 March).
