Occupying a new immersive black box space on The Thirsty Mile, ENIGMA presents a free exhibition of several absorbing works from Australia's leading video and sound artists.
From late October onwards, ENIGMA will host a rotating roster of installations from artists including: John Gillies, Philip Samartzis, Martin Walch, Sean Williams and Max Lyandvert.
Audiences can experience Oren Ambarchi's Black at the start of January, with Angelica Mesiti's PREPARED PIANO FOR MOVERS (HAUSSMAN) then taking the space through the month as the final installation in the ENIGMA series.
Depicting two removalists lifting a baby grand piano up six flights of curving stairs, Mesiti draws a fascinating parallel between this mundane act and a 19th century painting depicting three athletic young men scraping the floors of an inner-city apartment.
