Ode to Inspiration joins the dots between the trailblazers who opened doors – and tomorrow’s new radicals walking through them. Allysha Joy reimagines the music of legendary singer-songwriter Roberta Flack and will also play fresh material from her own 2024 album, The Making of Silk.
Joy has emerged as one of our country’s brightest voices. The deeply expressive singer, songwriter and keys player from Melbourne is known for both her solo work and as front woman for 30/70. Her husky soulful voice, formidable Fender Rhodes prowess and raw poeticism draws you in.
Joy will reimagine the immense songbook of Flack, hailed as one of the greatest songstresses of our time. Flack remains unparalleled in her ability to tell stories through her music. With a string of hits including “The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face”, “Where Is the Love” (a duet with former Howard University classmate Donny Hathaway), “Killing Me Softly With His Song,” “Feel Like Makin' Love” and “Closer I Get to You”, she’s inspired countless artists with her musical brilliance and honesty.
Don’t miss this celebration of an immense legacy from a fast-rising talent.
