Truth-telling by firelight. Listen. Remember. Heal.

On 25 January, Vigil brings people together in Redfern Park for an evening of ceremony, remembrance and cultural strength. Local Elders and community leaders invite you to hear the stories of these lands, honour the generations who came before and look towards the future we shape together.

Respected community members will offer reflections on Country, story and community, speaking to the continuing cultures of the Sydney Basin, the histories held by its people and the responsibilities we carry to Country and one another.

A Welcome to Country and smoking ceremony ground the gathering, with traditional song and dance performances. Join in a shared dance practice and connect with Country through movement and music.

Arrive from 6pm as the fires are lit and a shared community activity begins. Following the evening’s speeches and performances, settle in for a free cuppa and a yarn around the fires with Elders and community leaders.

Bring your family, gather with friends and take the time to listen and look inward.
